Google expects to sell only 800,000 Pixel 5 units this year

Yesterday Google introduced two new phones, Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, both falling short of the term “true flagship” with the lack of top-notch chipset, telephoto camera and an UD fingerprint scanner. Apparently, the Mountain View company doesn't expect the phones to be particularly hot with customers as indicated by the conservative orders placed with suppliers - 800,000 Pixel 5 units by the end of the year, as reported by Nikkei Asia. The total production for the 2020 Google lineup across its three members - the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, and the Pixel 4a - will be 3 million units.... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://bit.ly/3l2X3g5

Google Pixel 4a will be released in India on October 17

Yesterday Google announced the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5, but neither of them is coming to India for the time being. Yet Google subsequently confirmed that the Pixel 4a, which came out in August will be hitting the country on October 17. Google's official account revealed the release date and confirmed that the Pixel 4a will be sold through Flipkart. Its price wasn't confirmed, so we'll have to wait until October 17 for that. The Google Pixel 4a is powered by the Snapdragon 730G and packs a 5.81" OLED display of FullHD+ resolution. New camera features coming to the Google Pixel 5

Google’s Pixel 5 doesn’t bring any major changes the to the camera hardware. The 2X telephoto camera from the Pixel 4 has been replaced with a new 16MP ultra wide camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1µn pixels. Meanwhile, the main camera remains unchanged from the Pixel 4. It’s a 12.2MP 1/2.55” sensor with f/1.7 aperture, Dual Pixel AF, and OIS. We don’t yet know how much the image quality can improved solely based on software advancements as we don’t yet have the device. Until then, let’s go over the camera features that are debuting with the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G (they have... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://bit.ly/30j5Ous

Google TV is the Android TV skin for the new Google Chromecast

With the announcement of Google’s new Chromecast device today, “Google TV” is debuting with the new hardware. “Google TV” was Google’s first smart TV platform that was co-developed with Sony, Qualcomm, Google, and Logitech that first launched back in 2010. It was an OS for TVs that offered support for streaming apps, and as a core TV operating system. The platform would eventually be succeeded by “Android TV” until this day. The new Google TV is still based on Android TV, but it’s a UI skin that’s unique to the new Google Chromecast for now, though Google did say that it would be adding... from GSMArena.com - Latest articles https://bit.ly/3l1s1VN

Microsoft is bringing x64 emulation to Windows 10 on Arm

One of the main blocking issues in Microsoft's efforts to make Windows run great on Arm devices has to do with the lack of native desktop software that runs on Arm-based laptops and tablets. Google says the Pixel’s Soli radar and Motion Sense will return

Image: Google Google’s $799 Pixel 4 had built-in radar. The new $699 Pixel 5 does not — it ditches the sensor-laden forehead of its predecessor entirely in favor of thinner bezels and a hole-punch camera, like the $349 Pixel 4a before it. The result is more screen, but Google’s “Motion Sense” gestures and its answer to Apple’s Face ID are totally gone. But Google hardware boss Rick Osterloh tells The Verge that the Project Soli radar and gestures will return. “They’ll be used in the future,” he says. They were just too expensive for the phone that Google wanted to build this time. (He didn’t say whether they’d appear in a new phone, specifically; a recent FCC filing suggests they might come to a new Nest thermostat as well.) And let’s not get started... The just-announced Pixel 5 has somehow already been unboxed

The Pixel 5, Google’s latest Android flagship, was just announced today, and someone on YouTube has already posted an unboxing video of the new device ahead of its release ( via 9to5Google ). What’s in the box is fairly standard — there’s the phone itself, as well as a charger, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to USB-A converter. The YouTube user who has the phone, who goes by the name Sergiu, does power it on, giving us a look at the phone’s 6-inch 2340 x 1080 OLED screen and 8-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera. Sergiu doesn’t use the phone all that much in the video, though, sticking mostly to the phone’s home screen. Sergiu also zooms in on back of the Pixel 5, showing the phone’s aluminum back, fingerprint sensor, and square... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://bit.ly/30o9ECx

Realme Q2 appears on AnTuTu with impressive results

Realme’s China is going to introduce a new phone from its Q family, speculated to be called Realme Q2. While the original Realme Q was merely a rebranded Realme 5 Pro, this one is likely to be an entirely new handset with an OLED screen and 65W fast charging. The phone with model number RMX2173 has appeared on AnTuTu, scoring nearly 520,000 points, equaling flagship-tier phones' results like the Galaxy S20 or Honor 30 Pro+. EU will reportedly approve Google’s acquisition of Fitbit

In November of last year, Google announced its plans to acquire the fitness smartwatch maker Fitbit. 911 outages have become a fact of life — are we even fixing this?

In 2014, after what we described as “frequent failures,” a previous administration’s FCC attempted to change how the United States’ emergency 911 system works , including making it clear who’s responsible when multiple states inexplicably lose the ability to dial 911 at once. Some of that accountability might have come in handy this week — because we still don’t know what caused yesterday’s 911 outage. And it’s not clear anything would change even if we knew. Yesterday, 911 services reportedly disappeared in at least 14 states nationwide, some for as long as an hour and a half. Police departments and public safety agencies across the country had to hand out alternative numbers to call — and in some cases, warn residents not to dial 911... Twitter’s voice tweets are rolling out to more iOS users, and transcriptions are on the way

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Twitter has just expanded its voice tweets feature, which lets you record a snippet of audio to include with a tweet, to more users on iOS. On two separate occasions in 2019, studio co-founder Marcin IwiÅ„ski told game journalist Jason Schreier how it would address crunch, once even saying that “we want to be more humane and treat people with respect.” It seemed pretty clear from excerpts like this that mandatory crunch was not going to be part of it! Oppo Reno4 Z 5G goes official as rebranded A92s

HMD Global, the company making Nokia smartphones, has published its (very rough) timeline for when you should expect its devices to get the update to Android 11. Hold on, you say - that's neither weird nor (when you see how vague it is) that interesting. Well, the weird and interesting bit is that the company has quickly taken the timeline down after publishing it. So we're not quite sure what's going on here.
